Washington D.C.
To this day, Washington DC remains on of my favorite cities in the US. I loved it more than I expected. The history, the museums, the art, the public spaces - all things that are very important to me held in high regard by this city, the capitol of our country. I fell in love with it immediately. On top of it all, it was the first place that Brandi and I vacationed together, so DC will always hold a special spot in my heart.
We rented a small garden level studio apartment in the Northwest sector on K Street. It was a great little spot in a phenomenal location with quick access to the cities public transit system. “Scott” was the owner if I’m correct - nice guy… a writer. He gave us a copy of his book before we left.
Halfway through the week, my parents met us there and joined in on the adventures. We squeezed so much into those few days it was ridiculous: most of the Smithsonians, the capitol, the constitution, the declaration, Chinatown, the many memorials, art museums, and fancy historic fountains. This was the first trip I had been on with a literal check list of things to see, a pattern that only continued over the course of the next few years as Brandi and I toured new places.
To anyone who hasn’t visited the capitol of the United States, I highly recommended it. Saturated in history, art, politics, and a blend of diverse cultures, you’ll undoubtedly have a good time.
